On the 29th October the first patient was treated at the new Gamma Knife Centre at QSRC.
The following feedback was received from the patient:-
” Thank you very much for the care and attention I received at the QSRC on Monday when I had my Gamma Knife treatment. Although it is a non-intrusive treatment it is still a fairly daunting prospect and I really appreciated the approach taken, the explanations and the friendliness and kindness of everybody there on the day. I do not think that there was any more you could have done to make me feel more at ease.”
Unlike traditional surgery, Gamma Knife procedures do not involve the use of a ‘knife’ or scalpel and the skull never has to be opened up. It works by targeting a single dose of radiation precisely on the tumour and this minimises damage to surrounding healthy tissue.
The centre is located at the world renowned National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosciences, the UK’s largest dedicated neurological and neurosurgical hospital treating over 6,000 inpatients, 120,000 outpatients and 8,000 day cases each year.
This is the second Gamma Knife centre for Medical Equipment Solutions Ltd forming part of a UK network of radiosurgery centres that it is developing.
